WOW! Moments: A Party for a Miraculous Recovery
This story is nothing short of miraculous, and we celebrated the occasion with a WOW! Moment party. One of our Assisted Living residents moved into Orchard Park for hospice care. This resident wasn’t expected to live much longer than three weeks from the day she arrived. One of our senior care staff members would visit this resident and rub lotion on her hands, doing her best to make her feel comfortable. After a few days, she started sitting up in bed and talking to the staff member, showing some signs of improvement. Little did we know how much these daily interactions would impact her health.
This Orchard Park staff member continued visiting the resident and began encouraging her to do some simple range of motion exercises every morning. Before long, our resident was sitting up in her wheelchair doing these exercises and then started coming to morning exercise classes with other residents! Within two months of her residency at Orchard Park, she was coming to every program and activity and soon after, she no longer needed to be on hospice. To think, only months before, she was only given a few weeks to live, and now she was one of the most active members of our senior living community! It was such an amazing transformation to witness, and it definitely deserved a party.
Orchard Park staff teamed up with the resident’s husband to bring all of their family and friends together, right here at Orchard Park in Clovis. The couple had traveled all over the world, so it was important to this resident to get their loved ones together, something her husband said hadn’t happened in years. With everyone gathered to celebrate, we held a hospice graduation party for her, and she couldn’t have been more excited. Complete with a certificate, cake, and champagne, she was able to celebrate this monumental occasion surrounded by all of her family and friends. It was an emotional day for everyone!
Shortly after the party, this awe-inspiring and lovely resident was able to move back home with her husband. Although bittersweet for us as her caretakers, we’re happy to see that our thoughtful moments with her have truly paid off.
